Review: APB’s action-MMO hybrid tries, fails to inspire (PC)
Posted by Thomas Walters in PC, Reviews on 09. Jul, 2010 | 0 Comments
All Points Bulletin (APB) is an interesting beast. It’s an MMO, but it ‘aint your average MMO. APB is a real time action game set in the semi-open city of San Paro, where you step into the role of either a criminal or enforcer to take part in the street war raging between the two [...]
APB features voice chat adverts, The Onion predicts the future again
Posted by James Dilks in Editor's Blog, Gaming, PC on 29. Jun, 2010 | 2 Comments
Eurogamer reports that Realtime Worlds’ forthcoming online cops and robbers game APB will feature audio adverts delivered via voice chat. It strikes me as remarkably similar to this faux news report from The Onion, reporting on a fictional development in Google’s phone technology. The video is titled “New Google Phone Service Whispers Targeted Ads Directly [...]
Opinion: I Came, I Zerged, I Conquered

I’ve always had a bit of a love affair with the strategy genre. Dune II was the first game I played in any kind of dedicated way, hunched over the keyboard of my family’s shiny new PC with its 486 processor and 8MB of RAM. No game I’d played before could quite compare to that moment [...]
Review: Command & Conquer 4 fails to shake up series (PC)
Posted by Bret Allen in PC, Reviews on 12. Jun, 2010 | 1 Comment
A lot has changed since the first Command and Conquer in 1995- not least of all the developer, with EA taking over from Westwood. It seems impossible to review Command and Conquer 4 without invoking the legacy of its predecessors when reviewing it; a fourth instalment demands to be bought on the weight of its [...]
Groupthink: Crysis 2

Crysis, we’re told, is the nanosuit. Forgetting that plenty of other
protagonists are clad in bespoke GM leisurewear, perhaps it’s just
that Crysis doesn’t have any other qualities? Nevertheless, as
Crytek’s Clint Dempsey lookalike told us, players tend to combine
their superpowers in three distinct ways. Using the jump and cloak
powers lets players play as Predator, the character in [...]

Chas explains why a free flash version of NES classic Super Mario Bros. with multiple playable characters will make you wonder why you ever liked Mario in the first place.
Review: Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360)

What do you feel when you complete a game? Happiness? Satisfaction? Sadness that it’s over? Relief that you’ve made it to the end alive?
Any well-written, story-driven game should give you some combination of these, but there are a select few, for me at least, that seem to go that little bit further, combining all of [...]
Review: Dragon Age: Origins (Xbox 360)
Posted by Chris Evans in Console, PC, PS3, Reviews, Xbox 360 on 25. Apr, 2010 | 2 Comments
I’ve always had a strained relationship with RPGs. Little about the classic RPG model has ever appealed to me, but at the same time I generally hold story above anything else in my enjoyment of a game. It’s only in recent years that certain Western developed titles, such as Mass Effect and Fallout 3, [...]
Review: BioShock 2
Posted by Bret Allen in PC, PS3, Reviews, Xbox 360 on 12. Mar, 2010 | 1 Comment
As soon as 2K announced the arrival of Bioshock 2, the previewers and pundits burst from their crusty dens to proclaim the imminent game of the year. Thanks to the amazing and well deserved success of Bioshock 1, the sequel was understandably pegged as a top title to watch. The good news is- they were [...]
