100 Word Review: PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe

Tower defence games were always something of an acquired taste, but Plants vs Zombies proved that with a bit of polish and streamlining they can have mass appeal. PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe achieves none of this, managing to be unnecessarily complex and tediously limiting at the same time.
Rather than using a grid, Monsters uses trees as construction points for your towers, meaning you can’t influence the direction your enemies travel in like the Desktop Tower Defence style games. Conversely, the purchase, selection and construction of towers seems overly convoluted and time consuming. While by no means a broken game, there are far better examples of the genre out there.
